The faculty and I would like to welcome you to an exciting year at Our Lady of the Lake School. We have worked very hard to prepare for this school year, and we believe that our students will have a rewarding educational experience.
As we anticipate the Department of Education’s announcement of the 2017 Blue Ribbon Award recipients, we are truly honored to have been nominated for a second time and we are proud of our community for working so hard to meet their standards. This year we will begin the Middle States Accreditation process. We are looking forward to examining our school to help it grow for 21st century learning.
During the summer, we have enhanced the appearance of our school, thanks to the hard work of our maintenance staff. Several of the hallways, bathrooms, and locker rooms have been painted. The gym floor has been sealed. Several classrooms have added window blinds and paint. All the floors have been waxed and additional bulletin boards have be added to the halls. The Wednesday night men’s basketball league has donated a new water fountain in the gym that dispenses water into water bottles. We will be installing a new surveillance system for our perimeter doors in the next few weeks along with adding additional surveillance cameras in our gym.
Academically, we have added a new reading program for kindergarten through 4th grade. Teachers have participated in training and are excited about the digital resources available to our students. Our junior high science books have been upgraded to meet the Next Generation Science Standards along with meeting the STEM requirements. Students in 5th – 8th grade will be moving to 1:1 Chromebook devices to increase collaboration and engagement. More information coming soon.
We have some new faculty and staff joining us this year. Mrs. Berzanskis has accepted a new opportunity. We thank her for 10 years of service to OLL. Mr. John Benvenuto is our new junior high Science and 7th grade Math/Pre-Algebra teacher. He comes with vast experience and knowledge both in private and public school settings. Mrs. Natasha Arsheed is our new technology integrationist. She will be teaching technology to our kindergarten – 4th grade students and assisting our students and teachers with our 1:1 Chromebook initiative. Ms. Grace DeSciscio joins us as an instructional assistant in Mrs. Payne’s kindergarten class. In aftercare, we have added Ms. Alaina Benenati who is an alumna of OLL. Lastly, Mrs. Nicole Foley is our new school nurse. We are thrilled to have each one as members of the OLL community. Please take a moment to welcome them when you see them.
Please continue to read and review the school’s e-Blasts. We will be sharing a lot of information regarding school updates and procedures. We look forward to Kinderfest and Oktoberfest along with all the new HSA events and guidelines. Wishing a successful school year filled with blessings to all. Go Lake!
